A Guide for First Time Cruisers

The term spoilt for choice was surely created for cruising. There are just so many wonderful cruises to choose from which take in some of the finest destinations in the world. With such choice it's no wonder there are an ever growing army of dedicated cruising enthusiasts who take a cruise holiday year after year.

With cruising becoming an increasingly attractive option more and more people are choosing to take a cruise holiday for the very first time. For those that are about to embark on their first voyage there are a few helpful tips they might need to know.

Packing for a cruise is not the same as packing for any other holiday. For a cruise you will need to take three different types of clothing, casual, informal and formal. The reason for this is that during your stay the evening meals on board will be split in to the three different dress codes. You can check with your cruise line before you leave to read their dress code and find out what you should and shouldn't take with you.

If you would like to go on an organised excursion you can check your cruise lines website a few months before you are due to set off to see their list of activities. If you can make any reservations in advance so you don't end up missing out. You can always book excursions once you are aboard if you prefer, though there may be a limited number available to you. You can always organise your own excursions or simply go off and explore from the port on your own if you prefer.

Before you leave you should read through all of the information your cruise line has provided and complete all the necessary boarding paperwork. You should also fit your entire luggage set with appropriate luggage tags.

If you have specific dietary requirements contact your cruise company at least six weeks before departure to discuss this and then make sure they send written confirmation of your request should there be any problems once you are aboard.

Many cruise ships will offer a number off different restaurants including, French, Italian, Chinese, pizza, sushi, steak house which can all be found on a single ship along side many more wonderful choices. You can of course just stay in your state room and have the food brought to you 24 hours a day.
